Ting’s Gift Shop [CLOSED]

Panda Chopstick Holder

Only a few steps from the historic Nom Wah Tea Parlor is a little-known gem. Ting’s Gift Shop, formerly known as Ting Yu Hong Co, is a multigenerational family-owned business. Tam Ting opened this tiny shop in 1958 after immigrating from Hong Kong. Nowadays, Tam runs the business alongside her daughters (Lilian & Eleanor) and granddaughter (Jona).

You will not find the typical souvenirs at Ting’s, but rather historical and authentic items that represent New York’s Chinatown. Filled from floor to ceiling with souvenirs, there is something for everyone. From mini Chinese opera masks and porcelain tableware to vintage toys and paper fans, Ting’s has it all!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, xenophobia and misinformation decimated tourism in Chinatown and threatened the survival of many immigrant-owned small businesses. Ting’s was closed for six months last year, and business has been slow ever since they’ve reopened. So, on your next trip to Chinatown, make sure to check out Chinatown’s oldest gift shop and let us know what treasure you find!
