Chinatown Ice Cream Factory

Lychee & Durian Ice Cream

Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a family-operated business founded in 1978 by Philip Seid. His family came to America in the early 1900s from Taishan, China.

Philip used to say that “food is an introduction to a culture.” He believed that food had the power to connect people across cultures, and as such, he created Asian-inspired flavors to introduce New Yorkers to lychee, green tea, red bean, black sesame, ginger, ube, and even egg tart!

Philip’s daughter, Christina Seid, took over the business in her early 20s. As a third-generation Chinese-American, she grew up helping her father at the ice cream shop, and now, she has passed on the tradition to her two daughters.

Besides ice cream, they’re also known for their ice cream cakes that are perfect for any celebration. So go pick up a scoop or two next time you’re craving a sweet treat! Our personal favorites are black sesame, lychee, and durian.

Tip: Free topping with Yelp check-in!
