Forsyth Fire Escape
Forsyth Fire Escape was started on June 4th, 2021, by Isabel Lee and Luis Fernandez. Originally from LA, the couple moved to NYC in December 2020. Isabel is Chinese and Thai and a management consultant. Luis is Dominican and an abstract artist and behavioral therapist. When they aren’t at their day jobs, they run an Instagram cooking page (@watchuscook) and a clothing company (@uglyfamilyclothing) together.
The couple first had the idea to sell scallion pancake burritos from their fire escape in March 2021 as they felt their cooking page was missing a personal connection. They began testing family recipes and finally launched the business two weeks ago.
Every Friday to Sunday, Isabel and Luis prepare the burritos in their home kitchen in Chinatown. Isabel cooks while Luis is in charge of the shopping, cleaning, and filming.
Inspired by their Chinese, Thai, Dominican, and Californian roots, their homemade burritos are packed with locally sourced ingredients like pernil (Dominican pork), fried queso blanco, guacamole, and lemongrass garlic chili crisp oil. When their hungry patrons arrive, they lower the freshly made burritos in a bucket from the third floor of their Forsyth fire escape.
Reservations open every Monday at noon until it’s sold out. So if you want to try one of their multicultural burritos, send them a DM by Thursday to reserve your spot! They also plan on expanding the menu to include their lemongrass garlic chili oil.
